The Skin check appointment will approximately take 15 minutes and is a thorough check of your whole body.
Dermoscopy refers to the examination of the skin using skin surface microscopy, trained doctors are able to use this tool to identify and diagnose skin cancer such as Melanoma.
On the day of your skin check if we find anything suspicious we may take a biopsy to ensure that the lesion is cancerous before treatment commences.
Mole removal is only performed when it is clinically essential, or at the request of the patient if it is for cosmetic purposes.
Skin cancer can be a scary topic, however with self care and regular skin checks any new suspicious moles should be caught within an appropriate time frame for successful treatment.
Typically, a Basal Cell Carcinoma is more prone to developing on an area of skin that has heavy sun exposure such as the head and neck.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma is typically first present as a small crusted scaly area of the skin with a red or pink base. It could grow into a lump that resembles a wart.
A typical melanoma starts as a small dark patch on the skin (similar to a mole). It can develop from a normal part of skin, or from an existing mole.
